Time:
The length of a lesson is thirty minutes.
Note: All parents/guardians are welcome at any time to observe with prior notice given.
Cancellations:
If you know a lesson will be missed, advanced notice should be given within at least an hour prior to lesson unless an emergency arises. No-shows or tardiness to a lesson will not be rescheduled and the full fee will be charged. Please call or text me if a lesson needs to be canceled, or cancel the lesson via my website's calendar.
Discontinued Lessons:
If a student intends to discontinue lessons, please give notice so the slot can be given to another student. I reserve the right to discontinue lessons, at any point, due to language or behavior that may be deemed inappropriate or disrespectful. Lessons may also be terminated, at my discretion, due to a student’s lack of interest and/or vocal progress as a result of poor practicing skills or the ability to follow given directions.
Recitals and Events
We have at least 1 recitals per year. Recitals allow students the opportunity to put to practice what they are learning in lessons. Students in grades 6-8 will also perform in the ACDA/MMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival (dates TBA). Students in grades 9-12 will perform at the Mississippi National Association for Teachers of Singing Spring Conference each March, and possibly the Southern Region National Association for Teachers of Singing Fall Conference in November (depends on teacher schedule). Students will also be given the chance to perform in Caroling activities during Christmas at various location including, but not limited to, local nursing homes.
Practice:
Regularity of practice and good concentration during practice times are absolutely essential to good progress. Please set a definite period for practice, and see that your child has privacy while practicing. Please log practice hours into the website under the practice log.
Voice Lesson Journal:
All students are expected to include a journal portion in their voice lesson folder that includes the following:
-Translations of any foreign language pieces.
-A brief description from the student's perspective of the text of any Art Songs or Folk Songs they are currently learning.
-A brief synopsis of the plot for any musical theater or opera pieces they are currently learning, and a character description from their musical theater or opera pieces.
-Any questions that may arise during practice outside the studio.
Students who are accepted into the studio will be expected to sign the studio contract that has the full list of policies for the studio.
